Running to God - Reflections on Psalm 38

The Wide Place

IMG_7194
Where is the wide place, the place of latitude, creativity, individual expression, freedom, and joy?

It is not in the realm of structure-less ambiguity or undefined purpose. It is within the safety and stability of truth.

There we find a wide place.

" and I shall walk in a wide place,
for I have sought your precepts." (Psalm 119:45 ESV)

Commentary in A Treasury of David

The literal word for "wide place" and "liberty" here is "rahab."
"Wide place is the correct translation - but is symbolizes "liberty" and "freedom."

New International Version
"I will walk about in freedom, for I have sought out your precepts."
